Hydraulic Conveyor + Powered Rubber-Covered Roller Conveyor: Loading and Unloading Solution for Pet Food Bags Without a Platform

For warehouses and distributors without loading platforms, Hydraulic Conveyor works with Powered Rubber-Covered Roller Conveyor to enable continuous uphill conveying of 15-25 kg pet food bags, eliminating rollback and jamming and significantly reducing dependence on labor.

On-site challenges in unloading bagged pet food

Bagged pet food usually weighs between 15 and 25 kg. The goods are dense and the bag surface is relatively smooth, making them difficult to grip during handling. In operations without a loading dock, the need to unload pet food bags with a Hydraulic Conveyor is usually centered on the height difference between the ground and the truck bed/platform: bags must be repeatedly lifted from the ground to a height of about 1.2-1.5 m, and labor intensity and injury risk rise rapidly.

Many pet food warehouses also face the following on-site conflicts, which make loading and unloading harder to stabilize:

  • There is no fixed dock, and the vehicle stopping position does not match the truck-bed height
  • Multiple batches of vehicles entering and leaving require quick switching of loading and unloading points
  • Bag styles and sizes vary by manufacturer, making them prone to slipping or jamming on the incline section
  • Labor is tight but the takt requirement is high, so it is impossible to rely on manual handling for long periods

The limitations of common approaches are also clear:

MethodMain issues in pet food bag scenarios
Manual handlingHighly dependent on physical strength, limited efficiency, and high injury risk
Standard incline conveyorWhen the bag surface is smooth, it is easy to slide back, causing jams and congestion and requiring frequent manual intervention
Forklift + palletRequires palletizing/de-palletizing, and the efficiency does not match single-bag loading and unloading
Vertical lifting equipmentThroughput and floor space are limited, making it difficult to cover multiple parking positions and continuous loading/unloading cycles.

The core pain point is that once "weight + smooth packaging material + the required uphill angle" are combined, bagged goods are more likely to slip backward on ordinary rollers or belts.

How the equipment combination solves it: Hydraulic Conveyor unloading pet food bags + powered rubber-covered rollers

To make Hydraulic Conveyor unloading pet food bags run smoothly, the key is not a single piece of equipment, but a combination of "bridge alignment + stable conveying": Hydraulic Conveyor aligns the equipment height with the truck bed/platform, while the powered rubber-covered roller section provides continuous traction and higher friction on the incline, reducing backsliding and material jams. For more applications of Hydraulic Conveyor in ground-level loading scenarios, see Ground loading solution.

Here, the role of Hydraulic Conveyor is to build a "bridge" between the ground and the truck bed/platform. By adjusting the height with hydraulic cylinders, it can cover different truck bed or platform height requirements (approximately 700–2400 mm depending on the model) and provide stable support with a high hydraulic cylinder load capacity of 5 tons.

Hydraulic Conveyor works in tandem with powered rubber-covered rollers to continuously convey goods into the truck bed

After powered rubber-covered rollers are installed on the incline section, the passability and stability of bagged goods are significantly improved:

  • The rubber/PVC surface increases friction and improves grip on smooth bag surfaces
  • Powered drive replaces manual pushing, allowing bags to move uphill continuously
  • Load capacity can reach 120 kg/m, suitable for heavy-bag applications
  • A 57 mm roller pitch helps bags of different sizes pass smoothly and reduces the likelihood of jamming

Key actions for preventing backsliding and ensuring stable uphill conveying

Backsliding of pet food bags on an incline is usually caused by a combination of the following factors: insufficient friction due to the smooth bag surface; the increased gravitational component caused by the angle; inadequate grip from ordinary rollers/belts; and temporary instability caused by changes in the center of gravity of the material inside the bag during conveying.

The rubber-covered roller surface increases friction and effectively prevents backsliding

The corresponding control measures can be implemented through "equipment design + on-site operation":

  • Increase contact friction: let the bag contact multiple rubber-covered rollers at the same time to form multi-point grip and reduce the chance of slipping.
  • Use power to offset the downward sliding tendency: rely on roller drive to provide uphill traction, reducing the need for manual pushing and temporary bag stops.
  • Set the incline to the gentlest possible angle: after using hydraulic lifting to align the docking height, prioritize the "gentlest yet still effective" incline angle so the bags move more stably.
  • Coordinate speed control: through speed adjustment, different weights and bag types can maintain a controllable rhythm on the incline section, reducing congestion and intervention.

The goal of these measures is to reduce backsliding, material jams, and downtime handling, making uphill conveying more continuous.

Practical use: loading/unloading process and implementation points

In pet food distribution and warehouse scenarios, this combination can usually operate in two processes:

Loading process (ground → truck bed/platform)

  1. Position the equipment and lock it in place
  2. Raise the height hydraulically to align with the truck bed floor or platform height
  3. Load material at the lower end
  4. Bagged goods move steadily uphill through the powered rubber-covered roller section
  5. Personnel at the upper end receive the goods and complete in-truck placement or transfer them to pallets

Unloading process (truck bed → ground)

  1. Align the equipment with the truck door opening and the truck bed floor height
  2. Set to reverse operation
  3. Personnel inside the truck place the bags onto the conveyor
  4. The bag descends to the ground at a controlled speed
  5. Ground personnel receive and sort the cargo for warehousing or further processing

Pre-launch checklist

  • Site and access ways: Allow space for the equipment length (typically around 4000–7000mm) and ensure a clear operating passage for personnel.
  • Power supply and layout: Use the available on-site 220V/380V power supply; three-phase 380V is generally recommended, and plan outlet coverage for different parking positions in advance.
  • Basic training: Includes correct loading posture, height adjustment, speed settings, as well as basic troubleshooting and cleaning maintenance.

In actual operations and maintenance, this approach mainly aims to reduce manual handling intensity, lower injury risk, and make loading and unloading more continuous.
